My love for Chanel began before I even really knew what the brand was and how fascinating was the life of its creator, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.

I was all of 12 and received my 1st prescription glasses. My parents gave me the choice, and I magically, irrevocably was pulled to a pair of black and clear glasses with the small intertwined “cc” logo. I only understood many years later that they were “CHANEL” and how special they truly were.

Coco Chanel was a fantastic woman who (with help), using her own ingenuity and strength of character created one of the most iconic fashion houses in the world. Most of the main fashion houses where started by men and we are lucky to have their legacy live on, but Chanel was started by an orphaned girl.

When the brand “Chanel” is mentioned it conjures an image of class and style. Black and white with a dash of red are the main colors of the brand. Many of the styles that we enjoy these days: the little black dress, iconic perfume, and fantastic suites for women. Coco also gave back women the style of pants. Long ago, a woman in battle created pants by sewing the middle of a skirt together, but for too long we were robbed of pants and stuffed in corsets, but she wanted us to be free.

These days, Karl Lagerfeld is the Creative Director of Chanel (including his own brand, and Italian fashion house Fendi). He has strokes of genius (with the ever popular Boy bag) and horrible flops (with the girl bag), but overall he has managed to be a great creative force that drove Chanel higher and made it more popular with all of the styles and seasonal color choices.
